Pastor's Bio

 

Pastor Vernon A. Herring the seventh (7th) child born to Thurman & Maxine Herring in Halletsville, Texas

on March 26, 1963. He comes from a large family which consists of 12 children, Eight (8) boys and  Four (4)

girls. Pastor Herring was raised in church. He was a member of Lone Star Missionary Baptist Church and

was baptized at an early age. Pastor Herring grew up on the family farm and at a young age took interest in

sports: he ran track, played baseball, football, and basketball and excelled in all. the farm life and country

living made him appreciate family values and enjoy the outdoors.

 

After graduating from high school in 1981 and working various jobs in and around Halletsville, Texas. Pastor

Herring decided to join the military in 1985, he enlisted in the United States Marine  Corps where he served

four (4) years of active duty. During his four (4) year tour as a corporal he traveled to several countries

such as Egypt, Japan, Germany and Korea.

 

At the end of his active duty in 1989 Pastor Herringmoved to Compton, California to live with his uncle Pastor

M.L. Carroll, aunt and cousins. He joined Greater Big Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership

of his uncle M.L Carroll, where he was a member of the choir and assisted with the youth department.

He also began a career in the oil industry in 1989 where he is currently employed for the past twenty-four

(24) years. 

 

in 1989 Pastor Herring met his lovely wife of twenty-one (21) years, Carla R. Simmons and in July 1991 joined

in holy matrimony. Pastor and sister Herring have five (5) children, Lillian, Talisha, Jalise, Vernon II, and

Carl four Grandchildren. In 1992 Pastor Herring and family moved to San Bernardino, California.


Pastor Herring accepted his call into the Gospel Ministry, in Febuary 1994 and preached his first sermon on

May 22, 1994 under the tutelage of Rev R.L. McDonald at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church in the city of San Bernardino, California. He was ordained on November 14, 1999 under the leadership of Pastor Victor L Mayo he served faithfully as an associate Minister, until God moved his membership to Lake Providence Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jimmy Alexander. He served under and assisted Pastor Alexander until God led him to Greater Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Cleo John Bennett from which Faithful Covenant Missionary Baptist Church was formed in 2010. Pastor Herring served as Pastor Bennett's assistant for seven (7) years until God called Pastor Bennett from labor to reward in June 2012. On October 14, 2012, the church body unanimously voted him in as Pastor.
